At Malibu Surf Coach, every lesson is private and tailored to you, your pace, and your goals. Whether you're stepping on a surfboard for the first time or working toward your next level, our experienced coaching team will meet you exactly where you are and get you further than you thought possible in a single session.

We teach primarily at Broad Beach, a semi-private beach at the northern end of Zuma in Malibu an uncrowded, beautiful, and consistently great for all skill levels. Depending on conditions, we also surf at County Line, Point Dume, Leo Carrillo, Staircase, and other Malibu breaks. All equipment is provided including soft-top Stormblade surfboards and wetsuits.

No experience needed. No swimming ability required.

Chris "Stingray" Stiegler is an authentic surf coach on the highest level. His innate understanding of surf technique and generous, caring nature set him apart from others in the industry.

I have been consistently impressed by how quickly he is able to identify and explain key aspects that seemed like mysteries to even advanced surfers. The best part is that he does it with a genuinely good heart, which is why I believe his coaching sticks with people and is so effective.

Being around Chris is a guaranteed good time- he doesn’t take himself too seriously, but he holds surfing with the utmost reverence. His dedicated life has afforded him a few superpowers: the guy seems like he is able to predict the future when it comes to conditions, contest results, and what’s next in surf culture. It all makes sense when you learn how he grew up and how vital surfing has been to his family.

More so than any other trait, Chris’s surfing life experiences have given him the status of a true “soul surfer” - one who has the wisdom, grace, and confidence to speak about surfing with gentle authority and the unique ability to consistently say the right thing at the right time to anyone lucky enough to be under his tutelage.

Plus, he’s hilarious. From impressions to physical comedy, he could have a second career as a comic if he wasn’t a little shy.
